COCONUT BANANA BREAD

26/09/2014

That's it. Autumn is upon us. You can feel it in the air. Condensation on the windows that are like rain drops that dissipate as the day awakens.

That crispness in the air that reminds you summer has left us for the year. I look forward to wearing scarves, wrapping up, and getting cosy on the couch with a hot drink in your hands.

PANDAN COCONUT JELLY WITH WHIPPED COCONUT CREAM

Growing up in an Asian household, I was introduced to Asian style desserts from a young age. I look back at my childhood with fondness for the exotic Asian desserts I grew up eating. Like many children of immigrants in Australia, we were privileged to grow up being exposed to more than one culture and it's food. This most definitely applied to food.

Agar-agar jelly was one of my favourites, which my mum made on special occasions or when requested. It's silky smooth texture with a hint of pandan and undeniable flavour of coconut, but slightly more dense and less wobbly, in comparison to jello or as it is referred to in Australia as "Aeroplane Jelly". Bright green jelly desserts may seem unusual and possibly not enticing to those who are not used to it. But to me, these make me nostalgic for my past, my culture, my childhood.

PEACH PROSCIUTTO GOATS CHEESE SALAD

Peach Prosciutto Goats Cheese Salad

We are technically in Autumn but it doesn't feel like it at the moment. Us folks in the UK are being blessed with an Indian Summer at the moment. Leaves may have started to turn golden and trees are shedding their leaves, yet the days have been mild and at times humid. I can leave the house in the mornings without a jacket and I am still wearing sandals. Yes, that's right, still wearing sandals!

I did ponder why and how we came to use the term "Indian Summer. All I knew was that it's an American term that most people around the world have adopted to describe unseasonably warm weather that occurs at the end summer.

A WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

A wedding in Tuscany

What is life without celebrations? We should celebrate more often, not only the big moments but the little moments.

"There are exactly as many special occasions in life as we choose to celebrate." - Robert Brault

Last weekend I celebrated a deservingly fitting occasion that called for a celebration - my 1 year wedding anniversary. A year ago I wed my partner of 10 years. It took us long enough to walk down the aisle but we got there. We held the wedding on the beautiful grounds of Villa Catignano in Tuscany, Italy. It was a union of two souls, two cultures and two families. We merged Vietnamese/Buddhist and Irish/Catholic traditions together to create a unique ceremony. To describe this day in words would not do it justice. As the saying goes, photos tell a thousands words.

BLUEBERRY TART

12/09/2014

Is it possible to ever get sick of blueberries? In my case, I don’t think I could. We are coming to the end of blueberry season in Britain and there is a bountiful supply that have travelled a short distance to our local markets.

From June to September, blueberries are in peak season in Britain, and at their best in flavour. During this time of the year, I can’t help but stock up and try out new recipes.

TRAVEL: A SHORT GUIDE TO BERLIN

07/09/2014

Berlin has been on my bucket list for some time now and I was finally able to tick it off my list. Considering how big the city is and how much I enjoyed my visit, another re-visit to Berlin might have to ensue in the coming months. There is a huge amount of places to visit and so much history to take in. My 4 day city break only gave me small glimpse into this vibrant city. Below are recommendations of the places I was able to see on this trip.

PEA AND BROAD BEAN SALAD WITH BASIL AND FETA

06/09/2014

I have this little Greek Basil pot plant that sits by my windowsill in my kitchen and it's one of my favourite herbs to use in cooking. In fact, I've been slightly obsessed with it recently and am putting it in everything I cook. It's a robust herb that omits a wonderful smell and flavour especially to salads. It's micro leaves has a sweeter and subtler taste to the Italian Basil variety we all know.

ETSY LOVE

03/09/2014

It’s been a while since I was last on Etsy. I’ve recently taken up pottery classes again at Turning Earth Ceramics as a hobby and I like to turn to Etsy for inspirational ideas for my class projects. This month’s Etsy picks are some of my favourite ceramic wants. I'm loving both the geometric and simplistic pieces, and the white and light blue hues.
